Announcement

4 December 2012

On 9 November 2012, the Organiser received a complaint against Ms. Kathy Tsui about her work “KAF”, awarded Certificate of Excellence of Best Illustration (Multi-media) Award in GCIA, infringing on other’s copyright. The Organizer formed a committee to investigate into the incident. After verification, it is found that the said work of Ms. Tsui has infringed on copyright of other’s works.

Second Greater China Illustration Awards is a professional competition to encourage original creative works with clear rules and regulations that all submitted work must not plagiarize existing work and applicants should own the property right of their works and should not have any copyright infringement. On Ms. Tsui violating the rules, the Organiser has ruled to revoke her award to ensure the Awards is fair and professional.

Awards Presentation Ceremony
Witnessing the Power of Creativity

(24 February 2012, Hong Kong) The Awards Presentation Ceremony of Second Greater China Illustration Awards is successfully held at the Atrium of InnoCentre today. Eighteen outstanding illustrators with different cultural backgrounds from mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong & Macau were awarded with honors and recognition of GCIA’s seven grand awards categories. The organizer is honored to have Mr. Jerry Liu, Head of Create Hong Kong, as the Guest of Honor, as well as other prominent industry practitioners to present the trophies to the winners.

Riding on the success of the First Greater China Illustration Awards, the Awards received a record high of 1,786 entries from practitioners in the Greater China Region (more than double the previous year’s entries) of which 150 outstanding works were shortlisted for the final round judging.

Chairman of Organizing Committee of Second Greater China Illustration Awards and Hong Kong Society of Illustrators (HKSI), Mr. Winson Ma said, “This year, we hope to go beyond the cultural boundary to promote illustration industry to the general public in the Greater China region, foster exchanges among illustration amateurs, professionals and students with different cultural background. The big increase in the number of entries received proves that the Awards have gained a region-wide recognition. ”

“In the last couple of months, members of Organizing Committee and representatives from HKSI visited Beijing, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Taiwan and Macau to give school talks to students and practitioners and exchange views on the latest developments of illustration industry. This year the Best Illustration (Student) Award is no longer limited to Hong Kong region. We are particularly glad to see that the responses to the Student Category were overwhelming. We received 1,048 entries which is a three-fold increase compared to the previous edition of the Awards.” Mr. Winson Ma added.

Mr. Jerry Liu, Head of Create Hong Kong, remarked, “We are pleased to see Hong Kong Society of Illustrators has actively promoted illustration. That’s why CreateHK has sponsored the two editions of the Greater China Illustration Awards. The HKSAR government has always encouraged wider application of design in every industry to enhance competitiveness, and designated 2012 as Hong Kong Design Year (HKDY), which will be a year-long programme with a wide array of signature events, promotional and celebration activities to propel the development of Hong Kong as Asia’s design hub and creative capital. The Greater China Illustration Awards demonstrate the core values of HKDY – nurturing talents, creating value and celebrating excellence, and therefore are seen to be one of the main events in HKDY. ”

To compliment the Awards Presentation Session, the best 150 pieces of winning works will be exhibited. After the event, the awardees will also meet and celebrate their success with the press and visitors.

2nd GCIA is a great success thanks to the funding support from DesignSmart Initiative under Create Hong Kong of Commerce and Economic Development Bureau, the coordination by the implementation agent, Hong Kong Productivity Council, as well as the support from all supporting organizations, sponsors, media partners, the judging panel and the organizing committee.
